what can i say?

2010-01-24 1:40 a.m.

so the salsa competition is over.

i am more than a little irritated - NOT because of the final outcome - but because the lighting was so very very bright (there was a big white SPOTLIGHT on us the entire time) that the videos that were taken all came out a little unclear.

because we were wearing WHITE which naturally reflects all that light off.

so you kind of see 2 bright, slightly blurry figures.

its so irritating, a good video was all i wanted.

now it turns out the practice videos look better. there are 2 specifically (both in dionne's cam, darn it) that really really rocked and THOSE are the ones i am going to upload instead!

muahaha.

anyway, i am.......okay with the final outcome.

not over the moon, not suicidal, just....ok.

we got 2nd place for both the amateur and professional category.

i mean i totally expected 2nd place for professional cat (because there was brenda and libin doing yanqing and bianca's choreo, and who can beat the 4 big names i just mentioned in one sentence?) so 2nd place is fine and dandy by me.

but i was a bit discontent about getting beaten by the safari-print couple in amateur cat.

its a little funny to beat them in professional cat but get BEATEN by them in amateur.

or maybe not so funny, because we DID screw up a hell of a lot the first time we did our choreo for amateur cat.

(it was so dire i deleted the video: our split jump was on totally different beats and my leg ended up stuck beneath dionne's for the ending pose.)

now it kind of grates at me.

anyway, this competition being over we're both pretty certain on one point.

next time, we are both partnering GUYS.

it is pretty annoying to do a salsa choreo which ends up not looking like salsa because 1) it is two girls and the dynamics are all wrong 2) there are way too many shines which serve as cover up for the fact that we dont know a lot of variations 3) we cant do those cool lifts and dips that everyone else is doing.

next time i just want to relaxxx and be led.

plus the thing about dancing with another girl is that you have to share the spotlight.

hahahahahah that sounds so narcissistic.

but it IS true.

in partner dances its pretty much established that the guy is sort of the support system for the girl, the one who is burdened with the responsibility of making HER look good while he himself fades chivalrously into the background.

so they wear all black whilst the girl wears bright shiny glittery things.

and stands there motionless as pillar of strength whilst girl does her own shines.

plus they have to remember all the steps because they're the ones leading!

ha. sucks to be a guy.

but with 2 girls there are 2 supportees and no support (i mean, unless someone is willing to sacrifice) which makes things harder.

so Dsquared shall no longer be because frankly, its getting old.

well till i get the all important videoS, taaa!
