back from hong kong!!

overall it was really really fun and fulfilling, and though i was a little let down by the competition i have to admit it would have been an insult to the other teams if we HAD won anything.

1) our item wasnt salsa enough 2) we only got to train a few hours before the competition at a small corner at the convention centre with no mirror because we didnt realize we were going to compete at all (dionne only discovered she could go at the very last minute) 3) the choreo was shoddily modified during the few training hours to include letitia for the first 30 seconds because we needed to qualify for the team segment (since, being 2 girls, we didnt qualify for couple segment) which meant we had to have at least 3 people in the choreo. but since she exitted after 30 seconds im surprised they didnt disqualify us altogether.

i'd post our rehearsal video because i actually quite like the letitia-included parts of the choreo, its really quite funny.

anyway i am now completely determined to go again next year and compete properly using an actual SALSA choreo with a GUY because i realize i create problems for myself by not doing things the conventional way.

besides that i also got hooked on socialing again after 3 nights of parties because on the 2nd night i uncovered a mysterious secret of following (which isnt a secret actually, its reiterated in every basic class but i kind of took it for granted until i realized i was cheating on it subconsciously) which made things more fun because then i could follow the many crazy people there who did all sorts of strange insane variations which makes you go 'what did i just do?' after you finish it.

the workshops were....not exactly what i expected, but some of them were really fun.

i took most of the shine workshops over the partnerwork ones because at the end of the day i still prefer dancing by myself (doing partnerwork the only thing you move is your feet) but unfortunately nothing was as intense as yanqing's classes so, by now, it has all left the abyss of my brain already.

there was ONE that never will leave though.

the cabaret by serge and polina.

honestly i dont really know what cabaret is, i always thought it was stuff like crazy horse or xen's choreo but somehow during the workshop we ended up being thrown around in the air.

or swung across the guy's back like a potato sack.

it wasnt difficult because they explained the steps really well, but what it WAS was nerve-wracking because i really like keeping my feet on the floor and trusting someone to not drop you on your head is quite a feat, as it turns out.

other workshops worth remembering were the samba and the one and only yanqing class.

samba was loads of fun because the instructor was absolutely crazy and high and apparently, crazy and high are infectious.

yanqing's class was also interesting because we got to do other cool stunts that werent as scary as cabaret (though it still involved being thrown around).

i would blog more but i forgot what else interesting happened.

so till i remember again, taa!
