of feathers and flames

the bad thing about blogging late is.

OTHERS WOULD HAVE BLOGGED ABOUT THE THING ALREADY!

it becomes, like, old news.

and what's worst is if your blogging plan is exactly the same!

i cant exactly write an identical entry, can i.

it would be plagiarism.

though i thought of it first.

but who cares, i shall just write my entry as i would have, and steal dionne's pictures.

muaha.

DA:NS FESTIVAL!

and dont ask me why its spelt so weird, i dont know.

i do know, however, that it is pronounced DANCE festival.

not DANS festival, which sounds highly ridiculous, like you are trying to fake an american accent.

anyway!

dionne and i arrived LATE (because of who, again? *hint hint hint*) and so when we were there everyone had already territorized the toilet and were doing final touches to their costume and makeup - much to the amusement of the cleaning lady who stood at a side and stared - so we had to rush and honestly, putting on fishnet stockings and liquid eyeliner are definitely not the easiest things to rush through.

after that we still had to figure out how to sneak through the esplanade to the forecourt discreetly without people noticing our gaudy makeup and weird attire.

but, turns out we neednt have bothered. when we finally got back to the stage we were told that all of us would have to go back into the esplanade, to the concourse, to get an audience.

in full costume and makeup.

this is the full costume.

and that is the crux of the whole outfit - the feather boa at the butt.

so yes the whole bunch of us trooped into the esplanade dressed like las vegas showgirls or playboy bunnies, interrupting the nice musical performance going on because people started staring and some even snapped pictures.

it was probably the most humiliating moment of my life.

i mean, the ESPLANADE! its a place for CULTURE and ART, jeez.

then dionne and i and a few others stood together to take a picture, and somehow or other more and more people joined in, more cameras appeared and suddenly lights were flashing and popping all over.

its like people seem to think that, oh, since they're already posing for a camera, i might as well take advantage of that and snap a picture of my own! never mind that they're all looking in the other direction (or ALL directions, when the flashes became a bit confusing after a while).

after that we trooped outside again for the actual performance and i was really astonished to see that the entire crowd actually followed. it was kind of like a conga line snaking out of the esplanade, punctuated here and there by flying colored feathers.

after that we finally did pirate shine and the pyrotechnics were really cool, if a bit smaller than i thought.

i mean the way they described it, i thought it would be something along the lines of great whooshes of fire or something, like with the fire eaters you see at the night safari.

instead it was kind of like little bursts of fireworks, but oh well how often do you get even that.

after that we had a long long break before penguin shine, so we decided to slowly change outside.

oh yes, we had the coolest backstage passes with our names and IC on it but i cant get the picture from my phone to the computer! UGHHH. and all other wonderful pictures i took.

you'd just have to wait.

ok pictures of some of the other people and the interesting costumes.

kim, and the very cool tango outfit.

meiyin and samantha, who brought along a wonderful fan which we would have died without. meiyin's wearing the penguin costume, which is the coolest ever because of the vest. samantha's is the bachata costume, i think.

brenda - who is actually YOUNGER than us! - and her costume for her solo belly/hip hop thing.

kat's costume for her and libin's HOT and STEAMY bachata performance. it was the only rehearsal which managed to induce catcalling and whistling from the crowd during the blocking session.

well that's about it for the pictures because i CANT GET MINE FROM MY PHONE. argh.

at the end of the performance we socialed a little bit because i was in a tearing hurry and anyway, ive pretty much lost my interest in social.

but anyway all in all it was really fun! and we got a dains festival t-shirt, which we chose in M size much to the dismay of libin because most of the other shirts were in XS or XXS. but there were all so SHORT, and ive got a long body so i'd look like an improper fraction if i wore one of those.

sigh, the perils of being tall.

well that's about it from me, taa now!
