harry flopper

its seldom i ladle any praise on high school musical.

but i do have one nice thing to say about it.

its better than the entire harry potter movie series.

none of the actors seem to be very enthusiastic about what they're doing and every line falls flat (except snape's parts which are oh-so-funny).

they just speak the lines coolly in their funny british accent without much feeling or bringing out of the essence of the words.

especially the parts of harry, hermione, ron and dumbledore which are THE most important roles, but are so sadly underplayed!

in the order of the phoenix, one scene is blindingly wrong.

harry's ranting monologue part, where he enters hermione and ron's room and starts yelling at them.

in the book, the words were all in caps and you could imagine someone heatedly screaming them.

but the movie harry shouts in such a civilized, restrained manner that when the twins appear and go 'we thought we heard your dulcet tones' you just feel like asking 'dulcet? what dulcet tones?'

and dumbledore is portrayed more as a mean, irritating fella than the great wonderful magnanimous awe-inspiring white-bearded figure he is.

even his beard looks dirty and gray.

there's a feeling of touch-and-go about the whole movie.

like, there was such great detail and emotion in the books but when you watch the movie nothing measures up.

even the PHYSICAL APPEARANCE of the characters fall short.

what happened to harry's messy black hair, hermione's bushy brown and the weasleys' fiery red???

i spose if you've never read the books and just watched the movie it would be....satisfactory, i suppose?

but once you've read the books and imagined everything in your mind, you realize everything falls short.

and sure, the effects are good but you just dont get the same feel as you do in the book.

in fact you dont feel anything at all!

i would be terribly disappointed if i were j.k rowling.

in this aspect, i will have to admit that high school musical is better.

at least when you watch it, you dont feel your attention slipping and start wondering about the funny smell in the room or the butterfly outside and ultimately move away from the sofa to start blogging.

and there are songs to steal from high school musical.

for harry potter there is just a sense of gloom and depression and boredom to take home.

but ha-ha the snape parts make the entire movie worth watching.

what would they do without alan rickman?
