greenridge sec

2008-11-13 9:28 p.m.

i am not cut out to teach.

seriously.

or be an OGL or anything that involves having to cheer ppl on to do things when i myself am dying of exhaustion.

so today we finally went to greenridge sec to teach their dance camp thing, which apparently is an annual thing.

oddly enough the studios were separated only by partitions, so in the end everyone from both hip hop groups and belly dance did body isolation together (bianca led, thank goodness) and after that dionne and i combined our classes.

which was probably the only saving grace of the day, i think i would have died have i had to take half of the insane number we had BY MYSELF.

gah.

so the first dance of the day was good foot and dionne and i merged our choreo together since we hadnt expected to be combining classes. so we ended having her choreo for the first half and then mine for the second part.

i became more and more nervous as she taught the first part because it was the EASY part but it seemed nobody could get it! and my part was a lot more difficult.

so yes excuse me for not being able to teach, my nerves were fried and anyway, i am NOT THE TEACHING TYPE!

it was frustrating irritating exhausting annoying.

after that we did LYRICAL, which was supposed to be easier but wasnt.

which basically means few could master either dances, much less both.

and finally, we did REGGAE.

i actually thought we would get the least level of enthusiasm here what with there being guys within the class but i was loudly, distinctly, proven wrong.

all dionne had to say was 'now we are doing REGGAE!' for the screaming to start.

i was teaching it cuz she had done lyrical, and it was quite a chore because everyone was so insanely excited.

in the end we had to resort to using the mike because nobody could SETTLE.

everytime i taught a shimmy, or roll or whatever there would be whoops and cheers and laughing all around.

but it was, overall, the most hyped up dance of all.

we did some sort of a 'showdown' thing at the end where the students were split into 2 groups and danced facing each other.

and this was where the class spiralled out of control, because everyone's already hyped up emotions simply fizzled into overdrive.

the screaming and yelling and cheering still echoes in my head until now.

i would have to say that was the most interesting part of the whole lesson though because it was rather fun (read funny) to watch 30 or 40 students all shaking and rolling together.

and they WERE very enthusiastic.

when dionne asked them to stamp for some of the moves, they well and truly DID stamp with all their might.

as a result it seemed a minor earthquake was ongoing constantly.

what with that and the aforementioned echoey screams, our class was the noisiest of the lot.

by a wide, wide, wide wide margin.

after that they had a debrief thingy going on so we decided to leave earlier with bianca.

before we left though, they had to THANK us.

in the monotonous drawl used for 'xie xie lao shi'.

it was terribly terribly weird.

afterall we are only 2 years older than these ppl!

and the worst part of it is.

we have to go back tomorrow.

oh, just kill me now.
